PPE Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan – Allison 1000/2000/2400

Upgrade from the stock stamped-steel transmission pan to the PPE Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum Deep Transmission Pan for complete drainage, improved durability, enhanced cooling, and superior transmission protection.

The stock fluid pan has limited capacity, providing little thermal buffering, and its thin sheet metal construction lacks the strength needed for road debris/obstacles.

In addition, the stock drain nut protrudes above the bottom of the transmission pan, trapping over 1 quart of old fluid. This retained fluid, filled with metal shavings, mixes with the fresh fluid immediately, accelerating wear on transmission components.

KEEP YOUR ALLISON COOL

Excessive heat kills transmission life. As temperatures rise, transmission fluid viscosity decreases, weakening the lubricating film that protects gears and bearings. This could cause premature wear and potential failure.

The external cooling fins remain flush with the stock skid plate. This design maximizes the effect of underbody airflow for superior cooling and heat dissipation, while ensuring smooth airflow, reducing flow separation or turbulence.

The PPE Transmission Pan has deep external cooling fins, resulting in a 2.24X larger external surface area.

2017-2019 GM 6.6L DURAMAX HEAVY-DUTY CAST ALUMINUM ENGINE OIL PAN
The PPE Deep Transmission Pan increases the transmission fluid capacity by industry-leading 4.3 quarts. Higher transmission fluid capacity means higher thermal stamina and less chance of overheating (because it takes longer to heat up a larger volume of fluid). It also dilutes the contaminants in the system, prevents sludge formation, reduces wear, and extends transmission life.

TRANSMISSION PAN, ENGINEERED BETTER

Some competitors choose to line up the internal and external fins. This design leaves unsupported gaps between the fins which makes the pan susceptible to deformation.

The internal baffles in PPE Pan are purposely laid out diagonally. Together with the longitudinal external fins, they form a stiff, cross-bracing structure, distributing loads better and increasing rigidity and structural integrity.

In fact, the cooling efficiency gain from an aligned-fin design is negligible because aluminum's high thermal conductivity allows heat to spread quickly, making fin alignment insignificant.

Premium Casting Process and Material

The PPE Pans are manufactured using permanent mold casting. The steel molds in this process provide better dimensional accuracy and smoother surface finish when compared to sand molds. This process significantly reduces porosity and internal defects, resulting in better integrity, a denser structure, and higher strength.

We use A356.0-T6 heat-treated aluminum for our casting, a strong, durable, corrosion-resistant, and thermally efficient alloy. It outperforms the A380 alloy used in the die-casting process (commonly known as pot metal, used to make fast inexpensive castings) by some competitors.

Our pans all go through a process called shot peening, which hardens the surface, improves fatigue strength, and relieve the internal stress induced by heat treatment processes. This is also why the surface of the pans has a “rougher” texture, which makes some people think they are sand-cast.

Higher Thermal Conductivity - Better Cooling

A356.0 alloy has significantly higher thermal conductivity than the A380 alloy that some competitors use, the heat treatment process that the A356.0 material undergoes further promotes that advantage. This is why A356 alloy is better suited for applications where efficient heat dissipation is important.

Stronger, More Durable

The engine oil pan operates in a harsh environment, often exposed to impacts from road debris and obstacles. Therefore, it’s crucial to choose the right material with superior mechanical properties.

When compared to the A380 aluminum alloy that some competitors use, PPE’s A356.0-T6 heat-treated aluminum offers higher yield strength, better ductility (less chance of fracturing), and improved corrosion resistance. Moreover, A380 alloy is typically not heat treated due to its composition.

PREMIUM MAGNETIC DRAIN PLUG

A large, 304 stainless-steel drain plug is included. It’s equipped with a powerful high-temperature rated neodymium magnet to pull ferrous metal shavings out of the fluid, providing additional protection to the gears and bearings.

The drain plug resides in a recessed area and is protected by the deep external fins, eliminating any chance of getting ripped away by road debris/obstacles.

We use high-temperature neodymium magnets in our oil pan drain plugs, offering 4-7 times the strength of competitor strontium ferrite magnets. Rated to retain magnetism beyond 300°F, these magnets are strategically positioned within the oil sump to maximize contaminant extraction.
