Description
Check your vehicle for a cable bracket on the stock pan. There are different types of cable brackets that attached to the pan flange. Because of the thick walls on this PML pan, some brackets may be difficult or impossible to use with this pan. Pan includes magnetic drain plug and mounting hardware.
Volume:
4.0 quarts over stock GM shallow pan
Number of Bolts:
16
This PML transmission pan fits the GM 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E transmissions.
PML designed this pan as a heavy duty, extra capacity replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few vehicles, such as Camaro and Firebird up to 2002.
Benefits:
- Extra capacity, 4 quarts over stock
- Drain hole and magnetic drain plug for easy fluid changes
- Finned for cooling
- Heavy duty sand cast aluminum construction
- Machined flat gasket sealing surface
- Can optionally be machined for a temperture sending unit
PML designed this pan as a heavy duty, extra capacity replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few newer vehicles.
Note there are two versions of the stock GM shallow pan. They have the same depth. The older version is primarily found on 700R4 transmissions. This PML pan, part number 8650-1, can replace either style GM shallow pan.
Generally, here are some examples of vehicles that this PML pan fits:
- Blazer (mini), 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
- C10/K10, 1986 to 1987, 4.3, 305, or 350 engine (check drive shaft)
- C1500/K1500, 1988 to 1995, 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7 engine
- C2500/K2500, 1990 to 1999, 5.0 or 5.7 engine
- Express, 1996 to 1998, 4.3, 4.8, 5.0, 5.3 or 5.7 engine
- S10, 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
- S15, 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
- Savana, 1996 to 1998, 4.3, 4.8, 5.0, 5.3, or 5.7 engine
- Sonoma, 1991 to 1998, i4 or 4.3 engine
- Suburban 1500, 1986 to 1991, 350, 400, or 6.2 diesel engine

- Tahoe, 1995 to 1998, 5.7 engine
- Yukon, 1992 to 1998, 5.7 engine
Always check your truck, SUV, or van to see which stock pan you have and look for clearance with exhaust, drive shaft and frame cross members.
Newer vehicles: exhaust or frame cross members run under the pan and our part number 9427 is designed with a step for clearance on those vehicles.
Drive Shaft: Some of these vehicles may have the drive shaft too close to the stock pan to allow for thicker walls of the PML pan. Check the location of your drive shaft before ordering.
Bell Housing: Some of these vehicles have the bell housing close to the transmission pan and material must be removed from the leading edge of the PML pan so it fits and the bolt holes line up.
Filter Information
PML designed this pan to work with the 700R4 and 4L60E filters that fit the stock GM shallow pan.
Filter Supports, Temperature Sending Unit Locations and Drain Hole
- Filter Supports: The filter supports are the three cylinders in the middle of the pan on the inside. These filter supports are designed for the 700R4 and "shallow" 4L60E filters.
- Drain: The drain is on the driver's side. A magnetic drain plug is included with the pan.
- Optional Temperature Sending Unit Machining: Optionally, this pan can be drilled and tapped for an aftermarket temperature gage sending unit. Details:
- There is a machining charge for pans ordered with a hole machined. A plug is included.
- Two bosses on the passenger side can be machined.
- One boss on the driver side can be machined.
- The standard size is 1/8 NPT. Call or email if you need a different size.
Gasket
PML recommends a cork or cork composite gasket for use with our GM 700R4, 4L60 transmission pans. Any brand of cork/cork composite gasket is good as long as it is about 0.100 inch thick.
Example of one from Mahle, available at RockAuto.com. The Mahle part number is W39365.
Shift Cable Mounting Bracket
You may have to modify the cable mounting bracket to use this pan. Some brackets and cabling do not work at all with this pan. The flange and walls on the PML pan are thick so modification may be needed. Check carefully before ordering.
