Description

Price for set of 2 covers. Includes mounting bolts.

Some people have needed a smaller brake booster to work with these valve covers or have modified the booster mounting brackets.

Number of Bolts:

7 per cover, on the perimeter

Finishes:

These heavy duty valve covers from PML for big block Chevy engines feature raised CORVETTE script and fins and top quality construction. The classic CORVETTE script is licensed from General Motors.

Benefits:

  • Traditional design
  • PCV and oil fill/breather holes
  • Holes have internal baffles cast to reduce oil blow-by
  • Thick walls and gasket flanges for strength and a secure seal to the cylinder head
  • Sand cast construction for an old-school look and feel
  • GM license product

Chevrolet big block engines include: 396, 427, 454, and the 502

PML designed these valve covers using original GM cast iron heads. Chevrolet Big block engines include: 396, 427, 454, and the 502.

Engine configurations vary and PML cannot guarantee fitment. Check your engine configuration carefully before ordering.

  • These valve covers are standard height on the inside but taller than stock on the outside because of the thick walls and script and fins on top.
  • The relief is modeled after a 1969 big block 427 valve cover but the PML cover does not offer the same clearance. Other booster reliefs may vary. Some people have needed a smaller brake booster to work with these valve covers or have had to modified the booster bracket. We have been told a 7 inch booster works and a 9 inch booster does not.

This 1967 Corvette 427 has plenty of space between the brake booster and the stock valve cover. The PML cover needed another 1/4 inch to fit. The customer had a machine shop modified the bracket for the booster to provide more space for the PML cover.

Gaskets

Gaskets are not included with these valve covers. PML designed these Chevy Big Block valve covers to work with cork composite gaskets.

Breather and PCV Holes

PML Chevy big block valve covers have PCV and oil fill/breather holes and baffles cast into the covers. The internal baffles help prevent oil blow-by out the PCV and breather holes. Either of these holes can also be used for oil fill by removing the PCV valve or breather.

These holes work with standard 1 1/4 inch grommets. The breather grommet has a 1 inch inner diameter for a standard breather cap. The PCV grommet has a 3/4 inch inner diameter for a standard PCV valve.

Checking Clearance

Engine configurations vary so please check for clearance for larger valve covers. The walls and gasket flange are thicker than stock and the fins and script add height to the top.

Look for clearance on the inside also, especially if you have roller rockers. A simple check can be made if you have the stock valve cover. Set the stock cover on the head and measure the distance, if any, between the gasket flange surface and the head.

The PML tall version of these valve covers is approximately 3/8 inch taller.

Brake Booster Relief

These valve covers feature a relief on the driver's side cover for the power brake booster. The relief is modeled after a 1969 big block 427 valve cover but the PML cover does not offer the same clearance. Other booster reliefs may vary. Some people have needed a smaller brake booster to work with these valve covers or have had to modified the booster mounting. We have been told a 7 inch booster works and a 9 inch booster does not. Adjusting the motor mounts or using a different gasket with less thickness might also help.

Inside

PML makes these valve covers with oil drippers and a baffled area for the PCV and breather. The oil drippers and baffles are cast into the cover.
